Shove water in the kettle, close the lid and turn the kettle on. You feel pissed off because you put too much water in so it’ll take longer to boil. At the same time you can’t be bothered to empty it. Not even a minute in, you light the cigarette you were saving for your coffee. You’re agitated, exhausted. Not to mention the kettle’s being a slow piece of shit.

Take the opportunity to put two scoops of coffee into the mug. You’re cutting down; you used to take four. Fucking addict. You forget that you smoke fast, so you’re already more than halfway through your cigarette. Oh, and the kettle’s still taking its time.

This is the part where you hit something in frustration. (Violent fucker). Your cup is ready but the kettle isn’t. You don’t take sugar - sweet things piss you off. No milk either, hell no. You like your coffee black just like your metal.

I need to stop changing tenses in writing and posting old OTP shit. This is the only thing that’s new.

Frank and Mikey are approximately ten feet away from each other.

Frank’s in the middle of the hotel car park. He’s staring up at the clear sky with one hand in his pocket, the other trembling with the remains of his cigarette. It’s about three in the morning and pretty fucking cold. Frank’s regretting just pulling on a t-shirt and jeans, and he’s freezing as hell. But then he’d rather be out and freezing than in another confined space.

Even hours after the band had reached their destination, unpacked and had time for themselves, he couldn’t bring himself to relax. The stress from travelling and petty arguments here and there was still lingering. Waves of nausea kept finding him throughout the journey, screwing with his body and causing him to snap at everyone. He even found himself throwing up at times, and spent the last half hour of the drive retching and dry heaving in the shitty tour bus cubicle. Then he had to spend more time in the bus when Mikey was having a panic attack, who demanded that Frank sat him through it. That part Frank didn’t mind so much apart from the fact that he felt so crap, he couldn’t give the comfort he wanted to offer.

Another reason why he couldn’t relax.

Frank doesn’t know how close Mikey currently is, let alone being out at all. Mikey doesn’t sleep much due to his excessive consumption of coffee and over-active mindset. He thinks more than he speaks and sometimes he just lays awake all night, making up dumb scenarios originally to help him sleep but only make him get really into the plot lines.

Stress has been on his mind as well. Whether he’s good enough to play, his concern for his brother’s health, the preparations and events for the following day… it all gets to him. It makes him angry and anxious. Sometimes his body can’t deal with it and tries to detox. Usually he can control it, but today after the way Frank was acting he just freaked out. Afterwards he isolated himself in his hotel room with numerous cups of coffee, blasting “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” through his iPod on repeat. He was calmer, but Frank’s behaviour still bugged him.

When Mikey decided he wanted to move, it was almost three in the morning. His room was hot despite the lack of movement, so as people usually do, Mikey went to open his window. The cold air felt good on his skin, but his facial expression said otherwise. Mikey had spotted Frank out in that cold air and it made his fucking blood boil. He felt his teeth grit at the idea of him freezing to death in such a temperature. The fact that Frank hadn’t thought to put a jacket on made him want to punch something – how could he be so fucking stupid?

That’s how Frank and Mikey both got to be outside. After storming downstairs and out the door, Mikey suddenly stops. He doesn’t know why, but he’s frozen to the spot, staring at Frank Regardless that he grabbed a jacket, that hasn’t stopped the cold from creeping under his clothes. His face is a mixture of anger and worry, and he’s pretty sure his breathing’s hitching. He swears quietly, causing Frank to spin around and raise an eyebrow at him. He swears again, gaining the beginning of a verbal response from Frank. Frank never gets to finish his sentence because Mikey closes the distance between them and pulls him into a tight hug.

“You idiot.”

Mikey’s voice is bitter, but Frank can’t think of anything more relaxing. He snorts and chucks his cigarette butt before wrapping his arms around Mikey’s waist.

“What did I do now?” Frank smiles smugly, resting his chin on Mikey’s chest. Mikey grits his teeth, tightening his grip on Frank’s shirt.

“Inside. Now. You’ll fuckin’ freeze to death.”

Frank can feel himself relax with each word, as Mikey’s doing the complete opposite. He grins as he feels Mikey’s muscles tense against him. The way he’s holding him in a dumb attempt to protect him from the cold. Mikey’s pissed as hell, but he gives a shit and that’s all that matters. Frank sighs and pulls away. He takes Mikey’s hand, kissing each of his fingertips gently until he can tell Mikey’s calmer. Mikey fits their hands together after a moment, half smiling and rolling his eyes before leading them back to the hotel.

“You’re staying in my room tonight. No excuses.”

Frank smiles.

“Don’t need to make excuses when I’m with you, Mikes.”
